This app can help you. Just choose starting letter, then choose contact. Settings can help you personalize your "calling way".

Very bad app. Don't bother.

I am working on adding button for recent calls (like dialpad right now). New settings for enable/disable dialpad, recent calls, starred buttons. Always opening grid with letters on hardware call button. Will change messages under contacts to more simple ones.
After that we will try to create simple themes for grid (changeable bacground and buttons graphics). Probably it will be implemented as additional small apps with theme only.
