I'm not sure if the APK need to be signed before uploading or does it get signed by SlideMe?

Developers need to sign their apk's

Indeed, developers must sign their own applications with their own secure keystore. SlideME does not sign your apk files.

Follow the Android Guidelines how to use "jarsigner" and to "zipalign" your apk files.
