myDAY review by peaksbr

If one of your New Year’s resolutions was to write in your journal every day, or if you keep a journal at your job to record all of the projects that you are working on and the conversations that you’ve had, the answer to your problems is myDAY Journal, developed by Peak Small Business Resources.

Built around the central theme of organizing your notes in date and time order, myDAY provides the user with a simple interface that immediately gets you started taking daily notes, creating a journal and ultimately putting your thoughts into writing.

The application starts up either in the current day’s list of journal entries, or in a calendar displaying the current month as well as the number of journal entries that have been entered for each day. The calendar is full-featured and allows the user to get a quick glimpse into which days have had entries entered, and which days have been neglected. It is easy to back to any day and add or change an entry. Additionally, there are settings that allow the behavior of the calendar to be changed, and to either show the calendar on startup, or not.

Entering journal entries is straight forward and certainly not difficult. The application comes equipped with a wide range of fonts and colors to allow a lot of customization of the screens. The built-in auto-correction of the Android operating system makes typing a breeze. On devices that have a physical keyboard, the orientation of the screen readily changes making data entry a breeze. A great function built into this app is the ability to flag an entry as being either a “favorite”, or “important”. Although there not currently a way for the program to remind you of those items you marked important (the developer says that is forthcoming), icons show up on the screen to alert the user of those flags and its possible to sort by those flags as well.

Speaking of searching, the application allows the user to search for a specific text string within the whole database or restricted by to a specific set of days. The search results come up on a separate screen where the user can email the entry, or change its “favorite” and “important” statuses.

There are a lot of other features built into the system to simplify the whole job of keeping your journal up to date. Overall, the application is easy to use and is by far the best journal app on the Android Market to date. Although there are some areas that could use a bit of sprucing up, the functionality is there, and this one is a definite buy.

The app is available in the Android Market for $0.99. A demo version allowing 15 journal entries is available for free. Additional information is available on the company’s website: http://peaksbr.com.
